Oundle boasts many excellent schools in the state and independent sectors.
There are numerous primary schools in the area with the smaller primaries in the surrounding villages and the larger ‘Ofsted Outstanding’ Oundle Church of England Primary School in the town.
Then children move up from the primary schools at the age of eleven to Prince William School which was opened in 1971 by Prince William of Gloucester, as simply Oundle Secondary School. It was renamed in honour of the Prince following his death in an air crash the following year. Prince William has a thriving sixth form which take pupils through to higher education.
Of course the town is very well known as the home of Oundle School, a renown public school with day pupils and many boarding houses. Oundle School dates back to 1556 when Sir William Laxton, who was a Lord Mayor of London re-founded the original Oundle Grammer School. Oundle School is now the the third-largest boarding school in the country and won Tatler’s Public School of the Year in 2012.
