Those Who Are Loved is set against the backdrop of the German occupation of Greece, the subsequent civil war and a military dictatorship, all of which left deep scars.

Victoria Hislop sheds light on the complexity of Greece’s traumatic past and weaves it into the dynamic tale of a woman who is both hero and villain, and her lifelong fight for justice.

‘Storytelling at its best and just like a tapestry, when each thread is sewn into place, so emerge the layers and history of relationships past and present’ Sunday Express

Her first novel, The Island, held the number one slot in the Sunday Times paperback charts for eight consecutive weeks and has sold over two million copies worldwide. Victoria was the Newcomer of the Year at the Galaxy British Book Awards 2007 and won the Richard & Judy Summer Read competition. Mega, the Greek broadcaster, adapted The Island as a 26-part drama which was broadcast in 2010-2011, becoming the most successful television series ever broadcast in Greece.

Other books include The Return, The Thread, The Last Dance and other Stories, The Sunrise and Cartes Postales from Greece. Victoria Hislop’s last book, Cartes Postales from Greece, is fiction illustrated with photographs. It was a Sunday Times bestseller and one of the biggest-selling books of 2016.

Her books have been translated into more than 30 languages. Since 2013, Victoria has been an ambassador for Lepra.
